June Project 12- final post

Me and this hot number have gotten pretty close due to this Project 12…thank you Emily for the amazing idea!  Some days were hard…because we talked about hard stuff.  Some days were easy…because we talked about easy stuff.  Other days we missed our 12 minutes because of our busy-ness”.  In case you missed it, this is what went down in WEEK ONE, WEEK TWO, and WEEK THREE.

Here is look at our last week in this project:

June 22:  We mostly talked about weekly stuff.  You know,  what we were having for dinner and what our schedules look like for the week.

June 23: I had an appointment with Dana, so I had to tell him all about that.  I had an incredible clairvoyant experience happen over the past weekend when I was on my retreat.  I was really interested to get Dana’s take on some of that, and interested to hear my incredibly grounded husband’s response to it all.

June 24:  We, or should I say I talked about our upcoming beach trip, and what yoga studio I wanted to try, and where we should eat seafood, and on and on.  I realized at the end that I pretty much dominated that 12 minutes and I would make a huge effort to let him talk more.

June 25:  Tonight we talked about a meeting Daniel had with a co-worker, life insurance policies, house selling stuff.  (obviously I DID NOT dominate this convo)

June 26:  And we missed it again.  (We promised to make it up with extra minutes for the last few days!)

June 27:  12 minutes spend walking on the beach…we made the kids stay behind us so we could talk.  This was a talk about our vacation and being at beach.  The beauty of God’s playground, how we both feel being so close to the water, and how we don’t have to worry about work for a week.

June 28: We found time to talk while the kids were playing on the beach.  Mostly just regular, easy-breezy conversation.

June 29:  We made the kids stay inside, while we snuck out on the porch to have a drink.  We celebrated the recent law on gay marriage, and talked about how sometimes Christians do not act like Christ.  And isn’t that kinda the point?  To show we are Christians by our actions?  Our love?  (One of my favorite songs HERE)

June 30:  Last day of the 12 minutes!  We talked about climbing Jockey’s ridge…one of my 37in37 items, and how amazing watermelon is.  🙂

I HIGHLY recommend this project for you and someone you love.  You may miss a few days, tough stuff may come up, but it is definitely a great way to get a little closer.  I also think it was really good for my kids to see us do this together.  After all, they would not be here if it weren’t for our initial loving relationship.

Stay tuned for my July Project 12…it is all about gratitude!  <3

June Favorites

It’s time for a favorites post!  Here is a look at a few things I am enjoying this month~

1.  My tomato plant.  For Mother’s Day the past few years, my husband and kids have gifted me a garden.  This year they planted lavender, sage, basil, and tomatoes!  I cannot wait to make caprese salad with almost every ingredient from my back yard.

2.  Mustard.  This is taking my lettuce wraps to a whole new level.  You have to get the Country style.  (Thanks Heather for the tip!)

3. Pinot Noir.  I know I am usually a malbec fan, but my sister and I fell in love with this wine over Christmas, and it is still my favorite red right now.  I bought it because I liked the bottle and it was moderately priced.  (Isn’t that how all people buy wine?)  At around $15 it is dry, oaky and contains the stuff that prevents heart disease, so I usually buy 4 bottles at a time.

4.  Sunscreen.  The kid is one of my June favorites, but I am talking about the sunscreen here.  I really love Neutrogena wet skin sunblock.  It has a special ingredient called Helioplex, that sticks to wet skin.  I know my kids do not want to wait around to get dry, then apply sunscreen.  And rubbing in sunscreen when they are sandy at the beach?  No thank you!

5.  Agate.   I got this beautiful agate slice at Mamma Bessie’s.  Everyone should have an agate for protection and to attract strength. The agate is one of the oldest stones in recorded history and protects from stress, energy drains, and is used for upset stomachs.   (If you like crystals and all things “yogaish” as my daughter says, go to Mamma Bessie’s Place.  I stop in once a week after my friend Jonathan recommend it. )

6.  Concealer.  With age/lack of sleep/genetics we get the dreaded dark circles.  I was at Ulta with my daughter and she said this is what all the people use who make videos on how to put on makeup on YouTube.  She doesn’t even wear makeup, but I took her advice and I love this stuff!

7.  Maxis.  I love maxi dresses in the summer.  I got this one for only $25 and wore it all weekend.  I am not kidding.  I had an event to celebrate a friend who did 365 days of yoga at Charlotte Yoga, then met dinner with friends.  I put it right back on to go to church the next morning.  I went to yoga (no, I didn’t wear it to teach!), and packed it to wear to dinner that night too.  🙂

I would love to hear from you!  What are you loving in June?

June Project 12- post 3

June 15th:   My kids are both away at camp, which makes this whole thing a lot easier.  I was assisting a yoga class for Movement Charlotte, so my husband came home from work early and we hang out before we had to leave. (I am teaching this outdoor class Monday…come!) It was awesome…we naturally talked for longer than our required 12 minutes.  We talked about the kids, my upcoming retreat,  and our upcoming family vacation.  The radio in my car is broken, so we continued to talk the whole way to the yoga event.  (Note:  I don’t usually lay all over my students.  I was assisting him, and he made me laugh, so that is when I fell on him.)

June 16th:  Pretty normal talk.  We chatted about the weather, our tomato plant, and how we were going to handle this 12 minute thing when I go out of town this weekend.  (Face Time).  We spent a few moments at the end praying for friends of ours who are going through a hard time.

June 17th:   We had a deeper talk tonight.  I decided to throw my scale away.  Remember when I did that for a month a while back?  I felt compelled to just get rid of it after a talk with my friend, who happens to also be a dietician who works with eating disorders.  She pretty much called me on my shit, like my husband did with my Thigh Gap post.  I do make an effort to talk about healthy this, and healthy that.  But I still weigh myself everyday.  My kids see that.  I had a chart where I even wrote down my weight everyday.  I ripped it down.   I tell my yoga students all the time to love themselves, and to appreciate their strong amazing bodies, and to let go of judgement.  Then I weigh myself every morning.  I am over it.  I want to be healthy and happy.  Although this whole thing is really scary, it is very freeing too.   I want to get rid of the negative thoughts and just trust my body.  It was nice to have a sounding board for this.  My husband is very supportive with this move…he has seen this roller coaster and encourages anything that keeps me level and happy.

June 18th:  12 minutes on the phone on my way– pretty much talked about logistics of me being out of town for the weekend and all that jazz.

IMG_1767 June 19th:  Isn’t Face Time the greatest? I snuck away for my 12 minutes today to chat with him.  (It is key to face time lying down so all the wrinkles just fall into your hair.)

June 20th:  I was so busy with my retreat and he was busy getting my kids from camp, we almost missed it.  We ended up face timing as a family… does that count?  (No.  It doesn’t.)

June 21st:  I got back in town today and I was really happy to talk to my husband face-to-face for our 12 minutes.  I just pretty much dominated the 12 minutes because I had so much to tell him about the retreat I just co-hosted, and unloaded a cloud of grief I have felt today being my first father’s day without my dad.  Thank you for all the phone calls, texts, and messages you all sent me today.  I felt really supported and loved.  <3

Have an amazing week!  I hope I see you on your mat this week. Check out my TEACHING SCHEDULE!  XO
