Basic yoga mix

Happy Sunday!  I am excited to do another Instagram Challenge this month.  It has been a while, and I really like the poses featured in this one.  It is called Basic Yoga Mix, and as we get a little further long, the poses look anything but basic.  (I’ll modify if needed!)

Day 1:  Virabhadrasana 1 or Warrior 1.

  • Stretches the chest and lungs, shoulders and neck, belly, groins (psoas)
  • Strengthens the shoulders and arms, and the muscles of the back
  • Strengthens and stretches the thighs, calves, and ankles

Day 2:  Plank Pose- (My friend Jim is in high plank, I am in forearm plank)

  • Strengthens the arms, wrists, and spine
  • Tones the abdomen

Day 3:  Trikonasana or Triangle pose.

  • Stretches and strengthens the thighs, knees, and ankles
  • Stretches the hips, groins, hamstrings, and calves; shoulders, chest, and spine
  • Stimulates the abdominal organs
  • Improves digestion

Day 4:  Salabhasana or Locust Pose.

  • Strengthens the muscles of the spine, buttocks, and backs of the arms and legs
  • Stretches the shoulders, chest, belly, and thighs
  • Improves posture
  • Stimulates abdominal organs

Day 5:  Bakasana or Crow Pose.

  • Strengthens arms and wrists
  • Stretches the upper back
  • Strengthens the abdominal muscles
  • Opens the groins
  • Tones the abdominal organs

I have my first donation class for September Project 12 at Laughing Buddha this Saturday 9/12 7:30am.  The class will be all levels and last an hour.  All donations (cash, check or toothpaste) go to Thompson.  See you there!

 

 

September Project 12

I am so excited about September’s Project 12!  It is almost similar to last year, but that was really fun and successful, so why recreate the wheel?  I am beyond grateful for the donated venues and special friends who helped me get the ball rolling this time around.

Last year, I set my goal to raise $1200 for Thompson.  I crushed my goal and ended up raising $1500!  I am setting my goal to raise $2000.  (and I am collecting toothpaste as well!)

How can you help?  Share this post on social media! Talk it up!  Come take a class!  Get friends and family members to take a class!  Classes will be all levels with variations and modifications offered.  Then you just show up with cash (or a check made out to Thompson), or even a few tubes of toothpaste.  (If you have never been to that particular studio, try to arrive early to fill out a waiver!)

I spaced out the classes around town,  so no matter where you live in Charlotte there is a class for you!

This is a night to NOT be missed!  Yoga, live DJ, fashion show, and drinks/dinner on the rooftop after!  Last year over 60 yogis came out and flowed while the sun was setting…and we raised over $700 at this event alone.  I have yoga teachers from Carolina Sweat, Charlotte Yoga, Cornwell Center, Gotta Yoga, Laughing Buddha, Tryon Street Yoga and Y2 Yoga who are assisting and modeling The Haven Collection yoga attire.   The always amazing Wanda Koch will be there taking pictures as well.
