Strawberry Picking

It is hard to believe that I have made it 37 years without picking berries.  I’ve picked fruit from trees, but always want to pick berries. I added it to my #37in37 list and last weekend we went!

We were sure where to go, but a quick google search for closest farms brought us to Wise Acres Organic Farm.

Wise Acres is a family owned u-pick organic strawberry and pumpkin farm in Indian Trail.   They are a USDA Certified Organic farm and grow berries using only natural methods to ensure the healthiest and most delicious produce.

I promise Brody was excited to pick berries.  LOL.

We each got a container…they have bigger ones, but we each wanted to have our own.  The strawberries are $3.29 a pound when you pick them yourself.

We had to stop and see the goats…So cute!  They also had chickens, bunnies, hayrides, and a couple of playgrounds.

The pear tree didn’t have any fruits, but we are going to go back when they produce later in the summer.

We washed up and started picking!  You want to pick berries that are red all over, and get them with the stem still on.

37in37: Update 5

It is time for an update on my #37in37 list!

I cannot believe I am almost 38 years young…and my list is almost complete!  I am in the process of making a few tweaks to my list.  (there is no Colitis walk nearby, so we are participating in Tunnel 2 Towers.  I also decided I don’t want to smoke a hookah, so I am going to the Country Music Hall of Fame instead!)

#22.  Become a Fur Foster Family.  You can read about these two cuties by clicking HERE.  This has been quite an experience.  I would love to do it again in the future, but I will research other rescue companies and be very clear with what is expected and ask questions about procedures.  Don’t get me wrong…Rufflife is an amazing rescue group…they help animals and are very dedicated.  I am just really big on communication, and it is a little too laid back for my anal-ness.

#32:  Make an origami animal.  The kids and I worked on this over Spring Break.  This is supposed to be a frog.

IMG_2382

#9:  Do a flip on a trampoline.  My sweet neighbor got a pretty good shot of this one!

IMG_2460

#33:  Host a Progressive Dinner.  I loved doing this with my neighbors and will definitely do this again!

Stay tuned for my next update…hoping to finally milk that dang cow, ride the fury, and pick some berries!

Fur Foster Parents

One of my 37in37 list items was to become a fur foster family.  Well, we did it!  We  are fostering Kasey and Jimmie (part of the NASCAR litter!) through Ruff Life Rescue.

These are two adorable pups are 10- 12 week old lab/Australian shepherd mix pups.

Ruff Life Animal Rescue was founded in October of 2012, as a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the unnecessary killing of adoptable dogs of the Carolinas.  We are strictly a foster based rescue, with hopes of opening up a no-kill shelter, complete with training, grooming and boarding facilities.  As of November, 7, 2012, Ruff Life Animal Rescue is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue organization.

This is Kasey.  (They were already named, and they ask that you don’t rename them…we spent the night before at dinner arguing gently discussing  names for no reason!)

This is Jimmie.  Look at him looking at me!!!???

They love being outside and playing with balls and tug-of-war ropes.  Kasey and Jimmie are both crate trained, and sleep through the night.  We have pretty much potty trained them already too.

Toby is used to story time, and now these pups love it too!

They have completely taken over Toby’s bed…and our hearts.
