A Day at the Spa!

My husband and I recently celebrated 15 years of marriage!

Our anniversary is on Dec 23rd, and although I loved our wedding and everything about it, finding time during Christmas season is always hard.

He was sweet enough to have this gorgeous bouquet waiting for me when I woke up that morning.   But then came the hustle and bustle of church and company and cooking.   So I decided to surprise my hard working man with a treat after the craziness settled down.

I knew we would get home right at dinner time, so before we left I made a huge pot of chili.  I like to keep my chili low carb, so I added lots of beef and sausage.  Then just added 1 can of beans, onions and diced tomatoes.

I kept the secret of where we were going for over a week…that is a big deal!  But my hubby loves surprises and his love language is quality time, (well, and physical touch!) so I kept my mouth shut.

I told him to wear workout clothes, but to pack a bag with a bathing suit, and a comfy outfit to come home in.   And I told him to make sure his underwear was in good shape.  Ha ha!  He guessed  we were doing a sexy photo shoot, or going to Ray’s  Splash Planet.  (Um, No.)

We ended up at the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge.  They have a wonderful spa there with so many amenities.  The cool thing is, when you book a service, you can hang out all day long.  and that is exactly what we did.

I did insist on us getting a good workout in before we lounged and got pampered.  Only because it puts us both in such a good mood.  We did 40 minutes on the elliptical, and then some free weights.

After our workout, we changed into our suits and relaxed by the pool.  We drank a glass of wine, read and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

This picture sums up how relaxed we felt after our couples massage.  We had an add on, and we both went for the deep tissue.  I needed that!  I’ve amped up my workouts a bit so I had some pretty tight knots in my upper back and hamstrings.

After our massages, we relaxed some more by the pool and enjoyed the steam room and the sauna.  And lots of cucumber water.

Pedicures came next…It is hard to see how beautiful this view is.  It was a pretty gloomy day in Charlotte, so this picture doesn’t do it justice.    I can’t wait to come back on a gorgeous, sunny day.  I am thinking about treating my sister to a spa day when she hits her next promotion!

The finished product!  I got a cute puple color…he just got a buff and loved rocking those spa sandals.  🙂

And that is a rap!  We felt all glowy and  shiny when we left.

This is something my husband would never do for himself, but really deserves it.  He is a really hard worker and does so much for me, my kids, and everyone else in his circle.  He enjoyed it and it was so nice to get a way for several hours.

A wise person once gave me the secret to a happy marriage

“Once a week-Once a month-Once a year.”

Once a week go on a date.  This doesn’t have to be a fancy dinner, or expensive night on the town.  My husband and I go for a walk, yoga, or simply kick the kids out for an hour so we can connect over bagged salads at our kitchen table.  Once a month is when you are supposed to get away…even if it is to a hotel in the same city!   (Sending the kids away counts too!) The once a year is taking a vacation together…alone.  (That is one we are working on now!)

Stay tuned… next week I will recap my Raleigh trip and share what I’ve been eating lately!

May Favorites

It has been a while since I posted about some of my favorites….Here are 7 things I’m digging right now…

  1.  Dill pickle cashews.  I snagged these from Target.  I am very thankful they come portioned out…they are that good!

2.  Hot pink nails.  I love bright cheery colors this time of year.

3.  Stuffed avocado from Viva Chicken.  I sub the quinoa for feta.  because feta makes it betta.

4.  Plexus body cream.  This stuff is amazing! It has spirulina algae and activated charcoal, so I use it on my body as an all over lotion.  I can see the sun spots on my legs and arms starting to lighten up!  Here is the best part…I started putting a drop in my hair before I blow dry it.  I don’t even have to use a straightener, it leaves my hair so soft without being weighted down.

5.  I totally stole this “cereal” idea from Low Carb Traveler, one of the blogs I read.  I switched it up just a bit though.  I use a 1/2 cup of pecans, a 1/2 cup of  cottage cheese and 1/4 cup of blueberries.  This power breakfast can carry me to lunch, through my own workout, and teaching classes all morning!

6.  Boost Lip Balm.  Totally in love with this….It came in my Birchbox and I will be ordering again very soon!  It gives your lips lots of shine and just a hint of color.  IMG_2746

7.  Vanilla seltzer water.  Yummmmmmmm.  This is my new “dessert” every night.  This same brand makes an orange vanilla that tastes like a dreamsicle.

I would love to hear from you!  What are your favorites right now?

Baby Foot

I have a new beauty junkie product for you guys!  It is called Baby Foot, and it is affordable and crazy awesome.

I found out about Baby Foot through my friend and fellow yogi,  Charlene Poole, of The Porch Swing Spa.  A little background on my friend…Charlene has been a practicing licensed and certified electrologist since 1986. She has practiced in Charlotte since 1994. Charlene provides clients with permanent hair removal for smooth, beautiful skin in a relaxed atmosphere in her beautiful office with a view. She uses state-of-the-art computerized equipment and practices up-to-date sterilization procedures; only disposable probes are used. She offers both thermolysis and blend electrolysis. Charlene is also happy to serve the transgender community.

The skin on your feet is thicker than any other place on your body.  Normally, new skin cells are produced immediately, pushing the old cells up to the surface.  This usually takes 28 days…but our feet are under pressure, so the skin can’t complete it’s turnover process.  Which makes our feet dry, cracked, hard and rough.

Charlene told me all about Baby Foot, and I saw her feet during treatment…They were peeling like crazy.  I was like:  GIMME SOME.

Charlene was kind enough to share this photo.  I know….it is totally awesome and totally gross all at once.

My before pic:  I take pretty good care of my feet ya’ll.  As much as I abuse them, I get pedicures monthly, and lotion these puppies up often.   But pedicures can’t remove all the layers of dead skin.  Also, the friction caused by scraping the dead skin creates a vicious spiral of accumulating more dead skin cells.

This is the worst picture of my feet I could find.  I thought…this stuff won’t work.  My feet are already pretty soft with just these few exceptions.

Here’s what you do:  Put your feet in these little booties and chill for an hour.  (I watched Teen Mom OG.)  Then wash your feet.

The process takes some time…On the second day, I thought I must be like Princess and the Pea or something, because I had no peeling.  It takes 5-7 days after the initial application!

Then it started.  Basically it was like Christmas morning for me over the next couple weeks.  And now, I cannot believe how soft my feet are!

Stop in and see Charlene at The Porch Swing Spa and get this product.  It is only $25 and worth every penny!
