Dinner For Twelve- McNitch House

Happy Tuesday!

I’m excited to share the May dinner for twelve pick…my husband and I went to the McNitch house.   Located in Fourth Ward, it is in a gorgeous Victorian home, and is the place to experience true Southern hospitality.

It is pricey, so we made sure to save this one for a big celebration…my birthday and promotion to Ruby ambassador with Plexus.  I am now a GEM! This means I have a pretty large team, get a nice bonus, but still do what I love…helping people get healthy!

The tables were adorned with fancy china, silver, and bright colors.

I got a glass of Malbec, my hubby got an OMB copper, and we placed our order.  Before our first course we were served this little number…fruit and bacon.  We knew we were at the right place!

I got she-crab soup, and Daniel got the artichoke bisque.  Both of these soups were basically off the chain.  I would come again simply for the soups!

And if soup wasn’t enough, we were told to pick another starter course!  I went with the crab cake, and he got a salad.

A little raspberry sorbet to cleanse the palate before the main course!

Daniel ordered the surf and turf.  The steak was incredible.  At least the tiny bite he allowed me was incredible.

I got Dijon crusted rack of lamb.  It was good, but not my favorite.  I think I would go with the duck next time.

Dessert.  We couldn’t decide, so they brought us all three!  A coconut flan, lemon tart with basil ice cream, and a chocolate mousse with coffee ice cream.

I got this rose.  He got the bill.

We had a really amazing time.  The staff waits on you hand and foot.  I felt like a princess, and loved every minute of it.  We went early, and had the place to ourselves for about 45 minutes.  We learned the history, and enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the gardens where they grow herbs and vegetables.

We will go back!

Strawberry Picking

It is hard to believe that I have made it 37 years without picking berries.  I’ve picked fruit from trees, but always want to pick berries. I added it to my #37in37 list and last weekend we went!

We were sure where to go, but a quick google search for closest farms brought us to Wise Acres Organic Farm.

Wise Acres is a family owned u-pick organic strawberry and pumpkin farm in Indian Trail.   They are a USDA Certified Organic farm and grow berries using only natural methods to ensure the healthiest and most delicious produce.

I promise Brody was excited to pick berries.  LOL.

We each got a container…they have bigger ones, but we each wanted to have our own.  The strawberries are $3.29 a pound when you pick them yourself.

We had to stop and see the goats…So cute!  They also had chickens, bunnies, hayrides, and a couple of playgrounds.

The pear tree didn’t have any fruits, but we are going to go back when they produce later in the summer.

We washed up and started picking!  You want to pick berries that are red all over, and get them with the stem still on.

Tunnel to Towers

Tunnel+to+Towers+Climb+Charlotte

My husband and I are so excited…and nervous to participate in the Tunnel to Towers Stair climb.  I planned to participate in the  the Crohn’s and Colitis walk as one of my #37in37 items, but there isn’t one local, so this will take it’s place.

What is this about?  The Siller Family started the foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter, who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.

The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members.  In January 2015, the Foundation also raised over one million dollars to fully pay off the mortgages for the families of slain NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Luis Ramos.

Why are we doing this?

Well, my husband and I have a little extra income rolling in (thanks Plexus!) and we want to give back…with our time and finances!  And because my friend Suzanne asked me to.  She is such a beautiful person and I admire her so much.

Here is a little about Suzanne…She is is currently ranked in the top 15 female tower runners, and 2nd in her age group in the U.S. Suzanne was named the Most Moving Instructor by Class Pass in 2016.

Suzanne and her husband are the race directors for the Duke Energy Stairclimb benefiting the Stephen Siller Foundation. The Tower Climb event is in Charlotte on April 30, 2016 at Duke Energy.

Last year was the first Tower Climb event at the  new One World Trade building with 1000 participants consisting of firefighters, veterans, elite climbers and family of many first responders.  Suzanne and Joe were so motivated by the event, they wanted to bring it to Charlotte and share in honoring their local first responders.

The foundation builds smart homes for veterans.  They are currently working on 15 homes this year and are working on 46 homes total. These homes are customized to suit the needs of the most catastrophically injured servicemen.

Daniel and I would be honored if you joined us!  Don’t let the steps scare you….watch this VIDEO.  I dare you not to cry.  Then I double dog dare you to do this with us.  If you don’t cry and don’t want to climb, at least make a donation!
