Top Posts of 2016

I will be the very first one to admit that 2016 was not my best blogging year.  In fact, I took off for months at a time, and even wrote THIS POST about why I took a break.

I have made a decision to try again in 2017.  I really enjoy it…even if it is just for me and my family.  When I went to my high school reunion this year, several friends begged me to keep it up.  And as much as I may embarrass my husband, I know secretly he enjoys it!  Sometimes,  I like to think about my grandkids and great grandkids looking through my blog.  Seeing what books we read, what we ate, my favorite things,  funny favorites, and… how flexible Granny was!

Here is a look at my top posts of 2016:

  1.  Teaching Schedule: always in the top 10…I plan to update it weekly with my latest and greatest!
  2. Recipes:  I promise to keep updating this page!  It is one of my favorites to share throughout the year.
  3. It Has Been A Year: A look back at a year.  A year of grief.  A year when my heart was so broken and I felt broken.  My dad is in heaven.  January 8th will be two years…which is pretty unbelievable.  There are days when it seems like yesterday and other days when it seems like that was 10 years ago.
  4. Proposal Roast:  Ya’ll need a ring, huh?  I cannot believe this was the fourth most read blog.  It came in at over 8,000 views!  I know I saw a few engagements on Facebook…I wonder if this roast had anything to do with it!?
  5. Letter To Myself:  I absolutely LOVED this exercise and plan to do it again in January of 2017.  Even though not everything happened as planned it was so empowering.
  6. Body Composition-Part II:  all about how the scale blows.  And how working out and eating clean can get you some pretty sweet gains otherwise.
  7. May Favorites-  it still surprises me how well these “favorite” posts go over.  Not sure why it is so surprising.  I know I love reading/talking  about foods, lotions, workouts and other faves from others.
  8. The Scoop On…Plexus Slim:  This was a fun little segment I started!  The plan was to go through each product in the Plexus line with the “scoop” on each.  I will definitely finish this off in 2017!  I did get as far as doing one more scoop.  Click HERE to read about Plexus Block.

The Scoop On: Plexus Block

I started a new series on my blog highlighting different Plexus products.  Check out my last post about Plexus Slim.

This post is dedicated to one of my favorites…Plexus Block.


What is it?

Plexus block does just what you think it would do… it blocks starches and sugars from converting to glucose in the body.  Block slows the absorption of starch and sugar for healthy glucose levels and can help to reduce starch and sugar from converting to glucose in the body by up to 48%.


I don’t eat a ton of starchy foods…it doesn’t sit well with my UC.  But there are times I like to eat cupcakes and drink wine.  So, I take 2 pills of block 30 minutes before my meal and it helps so much!



The main ingredient is white kidney bean extract…hello…Dr. Oz has been talking about that for years!  The other is brown seaweed blend.

What do those ingredients do?

The active ingredient in white kidney bean extract is something called “phaseolus vulgaris” which interferes with the pancreas’s ability to secret alpha-amylase. In other words, it’s blocking the enzyme necessary for starch digestion.  So,  the starch will then pass through the digestive tract intact without being broken down into simple sugars and possibly later being stored as fat.  Yay!

Brown seaweed is a source of fucoxanthin.  There have been many studies that show  fucoxanthin  supplements can aid weight loss and reduce liver fat.  Here’s a visual that helped me understand it….when you place dried brown seaweed in a glass, then add water, it expands.  Filling up your stomach so you eat less.   Seaweed also has iodine…which most Americans do not get enough of.

The Scoop on: Plexus Slim

Plexus Slim (AKA:  The Pink Drink)

What is it?   Plexus Slim is a packet that you mix with water and drink, usually in the morning.  It tastes like a cherry tootsie pop, plant-based, and all natural!  This is not a shake…Plexus Slim is not a meal replacement.

How does it work?  When you drink Plexus Slim, it  breaks down sugars in your body, filtering through the liver before it hits the pancreas.  Plexus Slim also helps keep blood sugar, cholesterol and lipids at healthy levels.

  • Stevia Leaf- a natural sweetener.  Naturopath Mark Stengler says in his book, “The Natural Physician’s Healing Therapies,” that stevia can help regulate blood-sugar levels and has long been used in South America as a hypoglycemic aid for diabetics. Stevia may also help in lowering high blood pressure but won’t lower normal blood pressure levels. This plant may also curb sugar, tobacco and alcohol cravings.
  • Citric Acid-boosts renal health, improves mineral absorption, fights off free radicals, and revitalizes the skin.

A: Plexus Slim does not contain MSG or other proven red-flag ingredients.

Q: Are there any stimulants in Plexus Slim?
