Thai Massage

This is a picture of my friend Ashley and I.  We have been friends for years, and we teach workshops together all the time.  I finally got a chance to see a different (and amazing) side to her yesterday when she gave me my first Thai massage.

Thai massage uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body’s energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension and balance the body’s energy systems.  Thai massage is both deeply relaxing and energizing.  Ashely described it as, “having yoga done to you.”

Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage.  Ashley used  her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move me into a series of yoga-like stretches.

Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment. People describe Thai massage as both relaxing and energizing.  She also did some reflexology at the end of the session on my feet.

Ashley came to my house, which was really convenient. .  Thai massage takes place on a futon mat on the floor, (which she brought)and you wear loose-fitting clothing.  I started on my back, and Ashley used gentle compression and stretching techniques to open up my body, beginning with my legs.

Then I went into a side-lying position so she could get into my lower back, glutes, and hips.  It was really relaxing being pushed into various positions without any work on my part.  She also gave me an eye pillow that smelled heavenly!  (they are filled with organic flaxseeds and lavender essential oil)

Thai massage has the following benefits:

  • relaxes
  • reduces stress
  • improves circulation
  • increases energy
  • increases flexibility
  • improves range of motion
  • centers the mind and body

I felt amazing after mine, and I can’t think of a better Valentine’s Day gift for a loved one!  (Even yourself…love yourself enough to give yourself this awesome gift!)

  1. Kacy, love your blog and spunk and creativity. I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night. When I’ve used an eye pillow it helps my eyes rest and my sleep. My current eye pillow is sad and needs to retire!
