Tupelo Honey and The Blue Man Group

My husband is 36.  Yikes.  I am not far behind.  (It’s May 25th.  I’m registered at Harris Teeter, Starbucks, every restaurant in Charlotte except Salsaritas, and Lululemon.)  Oh yeah…back to him.  (He is over the whole let’s take 87 pictures of whothehellcares.)

We went to Tupelo Honey with family  to celebrate. This is one of my favorite Asheville restaraunts, so I was excited when they opened in Charlotte.   We ordered the pimento cheese appetizer…amazing and gooey.  They also bring you these really fluffy biscuits with homemade blueberry jam.  Homemade for real…you can see the blueberries.  These items are not pictured because we gobbled them up before I remembered I am a blogger and we bloggers take pictures of our food.   And everything else.  Annoyingly so.

Big Papa got the shrimp and grits.  (This is my father-in-law, and I don’t really call him Big Papa.  Although,  like the song goes he would love it if I called him Big Papa.  RIP Biggie.)  He got the “Shoo Mercy” version which adds caramelized onions, mushrooms, spinach and a dozen shrimp.

It was rainy and cold,  (because Charlotte won’t make up her freaking mind) so my hub thought this grilled cheese combo would be a good fit.  This is like the champion of all grilled cheeses.   Served on sourdough wheat, This manwich had havarti, pimento cheese, caramelized onions, maple peppered bacon, smoked ham, fried green tomatoes, and fresh basil.  They have homemade tomato soup, but he opted for cheesy onion bisque with biscuit croutons.  Biscuit Croutons.  Because who really wants to see 40?

My stepdad got the burger.  Did I ever mention that I have 3 dads?  I am kinda still mad at this one because he didn’t offer me a bite of that mac and cheese.  That burger is a half-pound blend of prime rib and beef short ribs.  That mac and cheese was probably amazing.

At least my daughter ate semi-healthy.   The pick-three veggie plate:  sweet potato fries, side salad, fruit salad.  My son ordered a bottle of root beer and took the label off and pretended it was beer.  All was well and good until the pastor of our church came over to say hello.  My son hold up the bottle to my pastor and announces how much he loves beer.  (Good thing he knows us.  We would never let our son drink beer in public.)

After dinner, just my hub and I went to see the Blue Man Group!  He has talked about wanting to see them for years.   It was an amazing show–the music, special effects, and the comedy.   I was so excited to see the band members stick around after the show.  (of course I had to get a picture with them…even if they weren’t the blue men )
