TV/Books/Movies

I love how lazy summer feels.  I really enjoy the slow pace and  love watching TV, reading books by the pool, and going to the movies with my family.  These are some of my favorites…

My husband and I are a few episodes away from finishing the second season of Orange is the New Black.  I am already mourning the loss of this show.  We have tried to stretch it out and only watch one episode per night, just to make it last longer.  I don’t want it to end.   Jenji– if you are out there, please have season 3 ready to go soon! (Tangent:  I wonder if you can wear ear plugs to sleep in prison.  I sleep with them now every night.  I got into the habit when my husband’s allergies were really bad a few years ago to block out his snoring.  Now I am hooked–I can hardly sleep without them.   End Tangent.)

mistresses

Andi is seriously bugging me on The Bachelorette this season, and so are the guys for that matter.  I found this little guilty pleasure, and I love it.  Plus, Alyssa Milano and I were like bff back in the day when she was on Who’s the Boss, and she is definitely the boss now.

Jen Hatmaker, who is another BFF of mine (she just doesn’t know it) has a show coming out in August.  I am so excited about this because I adore her, her work, her blog, and I want to be her when I grow up.  (Mixed with Baby Sideburns of course.)

These have been my pool reads so far this summer.  The book on the left I feel like I have read before, but it is mindless and awesome so I am still reading it.  Do you ever do that?  Plus, I got the large print version from the library on accident, so the dude in the pool chair behind me gets to read along as well.   Hardwired is not from the library, I actually bought it.  And the one that comes after it…Hardpressed.  These are up the same  vagina alley as  50 shades.  I do not go slutty-crazy reading these smutty books as some of the masses do, but we are reading 100 books this summer, so smutty might as well be a part that madness.  (I promise I will read some quality fiction and non-fiction too!)

how to train your dragon 2 movie

My daughter is at sleep away camp, so just me and my little guy went and saw How to Train Your Dragon 2.  Number 2 is actually  better than the first! Plus, my son held my hand for a very long time during the movies, so I basically purred through the whole thing.

And the previews for the  movies to come had us very excited!    Earth to Echo, looks comparable to  ET and Wall-E–the preview alone had me in tears!   Annie is being remade with Cameron Diaz and Jaime Foxx.  We will have to wait until December for that to premiere, but again I was crying during the previews.  My son and I were cracking up at the previews for Penguins of Madagascar, which comes out in November.

Any TV shows have you hooked this summer?  How about book or movie recommendations?

  1. Did you read Gone Girl? Just finished it and it was fantastic! Also heard the movie was good but I’m a book-first person. Should I add heart of the matter to my to-read list? And I’ve got a LONG list of reads from the past year if you want to compare and find new ones too!!

    1. Yes Amy! I love Gone Girl! I have a couple of good ones I read before our summer challenge started…Love Life and Elephants was beautiful, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats is one of my all time faves, and I loved The Language of Flowers. Heart of the Matter was great— I love Emily Giffin and can’t wait to read her newest book, The One and Only. Let’s definitely compare notes! 🙂
