Yoga Retreat

If you have never been on a yoga retreat, you need to add it to your bucket list.  That is exactly what my friend did for her 40th birthday, and what an amazing idea!  I am really lucky, because she invited me along to lead the yoga.

We all arrived at The Blue Heaven Spa on Friday afternoon just in time to check in and get settled.  We had our first yoga session from 4-5:30.  After a powerful flow (with lots of drop back practice), we showered and headed to dinner.  (The kitchen is on site and the chef is amazing!)

Saturday morning was a little different…we flowed for a bit to get warmed up, then we “workshopped” it.  I broke down several arm balances including tripod headstand, fallen angel, flying splits, mountain climber, crow, and side crow.

My friend Melissa lifting both legs in her mountain climber.

After morning yoga, we had the day to ourselves.  Meditation was offered, shopping, and even pottery.  Some women in our group got spa treatments,  some relaxed and read, and others went for a hike.

Saturday evening yoga was a deep stretch class.  This was the perfect compliment to the vigorous morning class that emphasized a lot of shoulder work.  I love leading this style of yoga…seeing the students be still in their bodies, then slowly becoming calm in their minds.

We all piled on the bed for this shot.  See how relaxed we are after that deep stretch class?  We all showered and dressed up a bit to go out to dinner.

We headed into Blowing Rock for an amazing meal out.  I’ll admit I was excited to eat some meat!  🙂

Sunday morning we were at it again.  I made sure that my sequence gave them all a chance to try out the new arm balances and inversions they learned the day before.
